PGN Saka, as an affiliate of PGN Subholding Gas Pertamina, through Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited carried out a ceremonial planting of 60,000 mangrove seedlings through the Community Development Program (PPM) held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Conservation Area, Gresik, East Java. This program aims to support the preservation of coastal ecosystems while strengthening PGN Saka’s commitment to maintaining environmental balance.
The event was attended by various parties, including PGN Saka representatives represented by Mr. Subali as External Relations Supervisor, SKK Migas Jabanusa representative Ms. Cindy Cinthya Koeshardini, as well as representatives from related agencies such as the Environmental Office (DLH), BBKSDA, and the Forestry Office. Also present were the Water Police (Sat Polair) and representatives of four villages.
The community’s enthusiasm for this activity was evident from their attendance and participation in the event. The execution of the event went smoothly with a series of activities including:
- Symbolic planting of 60,000 Rhizophora Mucronata mangrove seedlings through the PPM SIPL Program
- Symbolic planting of 2,000 Rhizophora Stylosa mangroves through collaboration with DLH East Java
- Inauguration of the Pangkahwetan Mangrove Nursery Area and inauguration of the Mangrove Gazebo.
“Mangroves can become tourist spots as well as economic centers for the community. The (greening) activity we conduct is part of PGN Saka’s commitment to the community and the environment,” said Subali.
Planting mangrove plants is not just about the environment, but also about protecting migratory birds and the ecosystems within them. PGN Saka initiated the revival of the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Conservation Area. The community is invited to understand that mangroves function not only as coastal buffer plants, but also as habitats for various species such as fish and birds, as well as effective carbon emission absorbers.
“East Java has 35,000 hectares of potential greening land. DLH has the AKSI TAJAM movement program, which also collaborates with SKK Migas and PGN Saka. We express our appreciation to PGN Saka for having the commitment to plant mangroves,” welcomed Aju as a representative of DLH East Java.
With this planting activity, PGN Saka hopes to continue contributing to nature preservation and supporting coastal communities through sustainable programs that provide long-term benefits.
