Commitment to the Environment
We conduct operations with disciplined and measurable environmental management, ensuring energy production goes hand in hand with ecosystem protection and long-term sustainability.
Biodiversity Protection Policy
PGN Saka, with a vision to become a profitable and financially robust oil and gas exploration and production company under the Indonesia Energy Holding by applying excellence in safety, occupational health, and environmental protection while engaging stakeholders to achieve long-term business sustainability, fully recognizes the critical importance of biodiversity protection for natural conservation. Based on this awareness, the Company is committed to playing an active role in biodiversity protection through the following initiatives:
Raising awareness and fostering conscious actions for nature conservation and biodiversity among employees and relevant stakeholders
Supporting government efforts in biodiversity protection by complying with land protection regulations and preserving protected plant and wildlife species
Providing human resources with adequate competencies to carry out biodiversity protection activities
Implementing biodiversity protection efforts by establishing and managing in-situ and ex-situ biodiversity conservation areas
Partnering with universities, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and local communities in biodiversity management
Water Efficiency
Description: Water utilization is unavoidable in this industry, as water is a crucial element in supporting operational activities. On the other hand, clean water is equally essential for human life, requiring the industry to utilize available water resources wisely and efficiently.
Waste Management
The Company is committed to playing an active role in implementing waste management programs through waste reduction and waste utilization efforts that contribute significantly to empowering local communities. We execute continuous improvement programs in waste reduction and utilization based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) recommendations and collaborate with all stakeholders to enhance waste management from our operational activities by implementing the Extended Producer Responsibility policy.
Emission Reduction Management
Emissions from both stationary and mobile sources are monitored regularly to ensure air quality remains within regulatory standards. The Company fully recognizes the importance of controlling and reducing air pollution from gas releases into the atmosphere, including conventional air pollutants and Greenhouse Gases (GHG). Driven by this awareness, the Company is committed to taking an active role in controlling and reducing conventional and GHG emissions through the following efforts:
Selecting technologies and materials for operational activities that yield low emission exhaust and are environmentally friendly, adhering to Clean Production concepts
Promoting greening programs in operational areas to absorb Greenhouse Gases and reduce conventional emissions
Collaborating with all stakeholders to develop conventional and GHG emission reduction solutions
Executing targeted programs established in Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to reduce conventional and GHG emissions
Contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the implementation of air pollution reduction programs
Decarbonization
PGN Saka’s Decarbonization Program, as a response to climate change, has become a key ESG-related initiative that supports Pertamina’s 2030 Decarbonization Program targets. The company’s completed, ongoing, and planned decarbonization initiatives are categorized as follows:
Energy Intensity Efficiency: Deployment of more energy-efficient equipment
Process & Fugitive Emission Reduction (Non-routine emissions): Achieving zero routine flaring, flare gas utilization, as well as monitoring and reducing fugitive emissions
Low Carbon Power Utilization: Installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
Low Carbon Heat Emission Reduction: Fuel switching from fuel oil/diesel to natural gas and/or biomass fuels
Community Development
Mangrove Conservation and Ecotourism
SAKA undertakes environmental conservation efforts directly linked to communities around its operational areas affected by erosion and deforestation. This has prompted SAKA to carry out mangrove conservation. These environmental preservation efforts are realized through the nursery and care processes of mangrove seedlings before planting. SAKA has developed several locations into mangrove ecotourism sites in collaboration with local communities, namely Banyuurip Mangrove Center, Muara Bengawan Solo, Lewean View, and Tluwuk Village.
Retaining Wall for Flood and Erosion Prevention
To minimize the potential for erosion and flooding, SAKA constructed a 1-kilometer retaining wall in Manyar District. This wall features a final discharge point into the sea, ensuring collected water does not overflow into residential areas.
Waste Bank
SAKA has further advanced the Berkah Jaya Waste Bank management program by integrating it into the Climate Village Program (Program Kampung Iklim) in Tambakrejo Village, Gayamsari District, Semarang. Waste management activities are conducted regularly on a scheduled basis, encompassing collection, sorting, weighing, and selling to collectors.
