PT Saka Energi Indonesia (PGN Saka), a subsidiary of PGN Subholding Gas Pertamina operating in the upstream oil and gas sector, demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation by initiating mangrove conservation on the coast of Ujungpangkah through Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited. This commitment was shown in a program to plant 120 thousand mangrove seedlings in the Green Open Space of Pangkahwetan Village, Ujungpangkah District, Gresik Regency on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Also present were the Board of Directors of PGN Saka, namely President Director Intan Fauzi, Director of Operations Achmad Agus Miftakhurrohman, Director of Finance and Business Support M. Atras Mafazi, Commissioner Harun Sulkam, and representatives from PGN Sales & Operation Region 3. PGN Saka also strengthened the spirit of conservation by inviting the Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Diaz Hendropriyono along with officials from the Ministry of Environment, Member of DPR RI Tom Liwafa, Representative of SKK Migas Jabanusa Kus Habib Amrullah, Assistant II of the East Java Provincial Government Ir. Joko Irianto, Head of the East Java Environmental Office Nurkholis, Acting Regent of Gresik Asluchul Alif, and various representatives of institutions and the community.
In her remarks, the President Director of PGN Saka emphasized the company’s support for the Community Development Program (PPM) or CSR, especially in the environmental field, by continuing to coordinate with local and central governments. “As a Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS), we support the Tree Planting Program launched by SKK Migas through sustainable mangrove nursery and planting programs in the context of environmental conservation and critical land restoration,” said Intan Fauzi.
Representative of SKK Migas Jabanusa, Kus Habib Amrullah, said that PGN Saka has become one of the benchmark KKKS in greening activities. “SKK Migas continues to encourage and monitor community development programs carried out by KKKS. Including PGN Saka, which already has a superior program related to mangrove conservation,” he said.
PGN Saka’s mangrove conservation program is not only carried out in Pangkahwetan Village, but also in Banyuurip and Pangkahkulon Villages. The program, which has been initiated together with fisherman training for mangrove nurseries and planting in several mangrove ecotourism spots, has enabled these villages to produce hundreds of thousands of ready-to-plant mangrove seedlings.
Assistant II of the East Java Provincial Government Ir. Joko Irianto appreciated PGN Saka’s step, which is in line with the Nawa Bhakti Satya mission. “On behalf of the East Java Provincial Government, we support this activity. As the Governor said, planting mangroves is a form of oxygen charity,” he said.
Acting Regent of Gresik, dr. Asluchul Alif, also expressed his gratitude for PGN Saka’s contribution to environmental programs in his area. “This greening activity greatly helps reduce pollution in Gresik. We fully support it,” he said. The Gresik Regency Government also presented a certificate of appreciation to PGN Saka for its commitment to mangrove conservation.
The climax of the event was marked by remarks from the Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Diaz Hendropriyono, who expressed his delight at being able to attend directly. “I came specifically to witness this good effort. Representing the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, we thank PGN Saka for its environmental conservation efforts. Mangroves have an important meaning for life. Let’s preserve them together,” he said.
The event ended with a symbolic handover of mangrove seedlings from PGN Saka to the Head of Pangkahwetan Village, Head of Banyuurip Village, HNSI Gresik (representing fishermen), and Pokmaswas Pangkahwetan (mangrove conservation group). Furthermore, joint mangrove planting was carried out by all invited guests and the local community.
“With this mangrove planting program, we must also pay attention to plastic (non-organic) waste carried along. Preventive action is needed so that this waste can be resolved,” added the Deputy Minister of Environment.
The mangrove planting program is a form of implementation of the AKHLAK culture as well as part of a real contribution in supporting decarbonization programs and efforts to fulfill the requirements of the Corporate Performance Rating Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) beyond compliance in environmental performance evaluation. This mangrove planting activity is also part of the series of PGN Saka’s HSSE Appreciation Day events.
